Victoria Young Peoples Centre has been a focal point of youth provision in Wrexham for several decades and has undergone significant changes. That said the core aim of the The Vic remains; being a free space and safe haven for young people to gather and relax. It provides an environment for young people to obtain support, advice, develop independence whilst socialising and developing friendships.
The drop-in is open to all young people between the ages of 11 and 25, with an emphasis on enjoyment, fun, personal development and offers traditional youth club activities such as pool, table football along with activities of today such Nintendo WII and Xbox. Other activities frequently on offer are outdoor education, graffiti and art workshops, along with music themed sessions. Young people are encouraged and supported to run the sessions and take on areas of responsibility.
The Vic Studios based upstairs is a music project designed to facilitate the needs of the large population of local musicians. The project offers 2 fully equipped rehearsal rooms and a recording studio all at very reasonable costs, and welcomes musicians, singers, MC’s and DJ’s of all styles and abilities. Chirk YC celebrated Youth Work Week with a bonfire theme… The young people produced painted posters with regards precautions they should take whilst at a bonfire and around fireworks. Also the young people decorated apples with chocolate and sprinkles.

Well we took a group of 13 young people from Trevor and Garth Youth Club to Liverpool St Georges Hall for a 'Shiverpool' tour.
We entered the museum at 7 (after a quick detour to McDonalds – don't tell Jonathon Miller!) we were then each issued torches and the lights were promptly turned off by the Victorian caretaker who took us on a guide of the Victorian criminal justice system, we were shown a mother being sentenced in the docks for murdering her daughter for £10 insurance money. And then found ourselves in the docks for being a gang of pick pockets and common thieves and were sentenced, held in the holding cell and shown the punishment room.
There were a few scares and laughs along the way – a lot of yes sirs and no sirs (bit like boot camp) but we all had a great time and are already thinking of next halloween! :)
