JANUARY

4 January – World Braille Day
An annual opportunity for blindness organisations to promote Braille literacy, showcase their work and raise public awareness of blindness issues.

17 January – World Religion Day
The aim of World Religion Day is to foster the establishment of interfaith understanding and harmony by emphasising the common denominators underlying all religions.

18 January – 1 February Big Schools Garden Watch
The school based version of the RSPB’s long running Big Garden Watch.

25 January – Burns Night
Get your kilt on and catch a haggis!

27 January – Holocaust Memorial Day
Holocaust Memorial Day is about commemorating and continuing to learn from the events of the Holocaust. HMD is marked each year on 27 January – the anniversary of the date of the liberation of Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

29 January – RNLI SOS day
SOS day is the RNLI’s national fundraising day.

FEBRUARY

30 January – 6 February – National Storytelling Week
An annual event which aims to raise awareness of this ancient form of entertainment.

1–7 February – Salt Awareness Week
Aims to educate the public on the importance of reducing salt in the diet and how this can be achieved in a practical way.

5 February – UNICEF Day for Change
A national non-uniform day. Day for Change gives pupils the opportunity to wear what they want for the day in return for a small donation to UNICEF.

9 February – Safe Internet Day
Safer Internet Day takes place each year in February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones.

14 February – Chinese New Year
This is the first in the Year of the Tiger.

15–21 February – National Chip Week
Celebrating the nation’s favourite fast food.

MAY

1 May – May Day
It is the time of year when warmer weather begins and flowers and trees start to blossom. It is said to be a time of love and romance.

3–9 May – Deaf Awareness Week
The theme Look at Me aims to improve understanding of the different types of deafness by highlighting the many different methods of communication.

3–9 May – Red Cross Week
A week when thousands of Red Cross staff and volunteers come together to raise money and recruit new volunteers.

9 May – Europe Day
Europe day marks the anniversary of the day in 1950 when the European Union was conceived.

8–15 May – National Doughnut Week
For seven days a year, bakers up and down the country sell doughnuts to raise money for The Children’s Trust.

17–21 May – Walk to School Week

JUNE

June – Everyman Male Cancer Awareness Month
Everyman was set up by the Institute of Cancer Research to raise awareness and funds for prostate and testicular cancer.

1–7 June – Volunteers Week
The UK’s annual celebration of the work volunteers with events held across the country to recognise, reward and recruit volunteers.

5 June – World Environmental Day
Stimulate worldwide awareness of environmental issues and encourage political action.

7–15 June – British Hearts Week

14 June – World Blood Donor Day
It is a day for blood services across the globe to collectively recognise and thank donors for their support.

20 June – Father’s Day

21–27 June – Deafblind Awareness Week
An opportunity to raise public awareness about issues facing people who live with deafblindness.

25 June – Wrong Trousers Day
Is all about paying £1.00 for the right to look wrong and wearing wrong trousers.

26 June – Armed Forces Day
An opportunity for the nation to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

JULY

4–11 July – National Transplant Week
To increase public awareness of the positive benefits of Organ & Tissue Donation for transplantation.

6–13 July – Children’s Art Day
Is an opportunity for children to sample and enjoy the wide range of visual arts.
