British Youth Council
Our vision
All young people across the UK will have a say and be heard.
Our mission
The British Youth Council (BYC) is led by young people, for young people, aged 25 and under, across the UK. We connect with our community of member organisations and network of Local Youth Councils, to empower all of us, wherever we’re from, to have a say and be heard. Our fresh take on training and volunteering and our lively campaigns – both local and global – inspire young people to have a positive impact and make their voices count.
What we stand for
BYC is an organisation of young people for young people across the UK. We empower other young people to get involved in the things that are important to us and to have a say in decisions that affect our lives. We believe that it doesn't matter who we are or where we come from, our voices count.
Our Parliament, Our Vision
In the run up to General Election 2010, the British Youth Council (BYC) is campaigning for all parliamentary candidates to support and respond to our manifesto priorities and make our calls to action happen when they are elected.
Our Manifesto has been created by young people for young people.
It outlines five actions that Parliament must take to improve the lives of young people in the UK
- 16: A new age for Democracy – We want our Parliament to reduce the voting age for parliamentary and other public elections to 16 years.
- End Child Poverty – We want our Parliament to keep the promise to end child poverty in the UK by 2020.
- Our Minds Matter – We want our Parliament to invest in comprehensive mental health services for young people.
- Equal pay for equal work – We want our Parliament to create an equal National Minimum Wage for everyone aged 16 and over.
- All aboard for affordable travel – We want our Parliament to support a National Youth Transport card that offers 16 to 25 year olds a third off public transport fares.
